It's Thanksgiving Day...I can hardly believe it. I'm only making one dish for dinner. My dad's wife and her sister are doing the majority of all the cooking and preparation. I wanted to be a bit of "Martha Stewart" this year but they seemed to have everything covered...so I didn't mind.
Next year I think I will host and cook it'll be my time to shine...plus I'll have another 12 months of practice under my belt.
So this year, we'll be heading over to Baytown to congregate and hang out. It's so nice to be around the ones you love especially for the Holidays...it seems every year is always a bit different...never the same thing twice. One of my brothers will not be there and Amanda-Jayne's sister and her family will not be there. It will be nice just the same.
My best friend Jao and his wife Dayna are doing something a bit different this year. In his own way...though he may not know it...he's become a bit of an activist. He likes to mix things up, stir the pot if you will, get the controversy going, make one think...here's a bit of an email conversation we had yesterday:
Jake:
WHAT??? NO THANKSGIVING...that's UN-AMERICAN...I can't believe that. That's just not right. How can one go without all the Thanksgiving goodies...it's not right I tell you...it's just not right.
Jao:
...on the third Thursday of the month of November, we have a holiday where we all get together and celebrate our materialistic gluttony, only spending more money! All while millions and millions and millions of people and children will go to bed starving, with no one to turn to for help. And thousands of them will not wake up tomorrow morning...
Something to think about!!!
ONE...with a
careless memory
